John 20:17; 26-27

The Appearance of Christ to Mary Magdalene. Alexander Ivanov 1834-1836

Mary stayed at the tomb weeping because Jesus' body was gone. Missing. Someone stole it. Where was it? The disciples, Peter, and John went back home. Why? Frustrated. Angry. Everything against them. Their lives in mass confusion. They went back home. Mary stayed.
Rabboni comes to Mary. She rushes to him. He stops her. "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father." She is told to go tell His brothers that He is returning to His Father and their Father.
The Incredulity of St. Thomas, Caravaggio, 1602-1603
A week later...what happened during that week? Where was Jesus? What was He doing? What were the disciples thinking? What were the Pharisees and Sanhedrin thinking? The news surely spread through the region that Jesus was out of the tomb and roaming the streets. Enter Thomas. Doubting Thomas and he gets to touch Jesus. Mary wasn't allowed but Thomas could. Why?
