The Simple Woman's Daybook - July 21, 2008

Before I begin my Simple Woman Journal entry for the day, if you use Blogger are you having a difficult time cutting and pasting to your posts? For about a month now, everytime I cut and paste, what I'm pasting gets placed outside the box and then when I post it's not visible. Does this happen to you?

Now on to the post and go to The Simple Woman for more entries...

Outside my window...The sun is just rising. It's still very early but Liam was squishing me closer and closer into a mom/wife sandwich. I was getting hot and more and more uncomfortable where I should be relaxed and refreshed. Climbed out of bed to catch up on blogs before everyone else rises.

I am thinking...
of what I need to get at the grocery store in order to make a HUGE tossed green salad for he funeral lunch later this morning. And I need to pick up the 100 piece chicken party-pack (seems odd to pick up a "party-pack" for a funeral lunch) by 10:30

I am thankful for...
my kids having a good time a their mission conference. Dave drives up today, after the funeral. I am also thankful for their joy. They enjoy life and they enjoy their family. They are not what I was like as a teenager - full of angst of low self-esteem.

From the kitchen...
is a bag of honey-nut cheerios and raisin bran. I like mixing the two. The crispness and fiber of the bran flakes, the sweet tartness of the raisins and the smoothness of the cheerios - quite a complement of flavors and textures!

I am creating...
heck if I know. Comment if you have any idea!

I am going...
to enjoy having the Merrills spend the night. They are coming through the area on they way back to CO from camping in the D.C. area. Haven't seen them in 5 years!!!

I am wearing...
a nightgown.

I am reading...
the Sound and the Fury by WIlliam Faulkner and wondering WHY!!! After my review of Of Mice and Men it was suggested I read Faulkner (the great American novelist). I'm, uh, er, em, I little stuck on page 3. For the week!

I am hoping...
I get a good re-start this week on those habits I have abandoned this past month - exercise, Bible reading, reading (for self and Liam), not eating sweets. I've had a month of letting go and I'm regretting it. I have given myself this week (while Ian, Emma and Dave are in PA) to reboot my system.

I am hearing...
just the click-clacking of my fingers on the keyboard. Ooops, a ambulance with its siren blaring just sped by.

Around the house...it is nice and tidy. With only one child to care for and pick up after life is much neater. And quieter. And less complicated. And a little dull.

One of my favorite things...
getting a phone call from Aidan (in Cyprus) on birthday at 7:17 in the morning (get it - my birthday is July 17th!). Best birthday present was hearing his jovial voice.

A few plans for the rest of the week...
see "I am hoping."

Here is a picture-thought...We took Austin (my nephew visiting for three weeks) up to the Arch. Here's Austin at the top, looking over the Mississippi River.

Happy Monday! I would say that in the kitchen you are creating a great new cereal mixture!
Love the picture of the view from the Arch!

I didn't really mean for you to read Faulkner, I hope I didn't say "you should". (I think it was me who mentioned southern writers?) But I do like his long interesting sentences which means I don't really care for Hemmingway, who pares his sentences down to the bone. So maybe you would like Hemmingway.

I have been having the ends of web addresses left off if I try to paste them in.

I thought your birthday tattoo was wonderful, what a great witness.

My teens are nothing like I was, either. They're very outgoing, and I was very shy.

Enjoy your guests! And happy belated birthday!

I posted my Daybook, too.

Thanks for being my first "visitor" this morning! This is the first book by McCall that I have read (picked it up cheap at a bookstore!!), so I can't comment on the others he's written. From what I've heard though, the Ladies' Detective Agency books are supposed to be quite funny!
Great view of the Mississippi!

Hello! You are creating teenagers that are NOT full of angst and low self esteem, unlike what you experiences. That's breaking the chain girl, ROCK ON!!! Great job!!!

Faulkner is not easy reading, but once I do get going, generally enjoy. Sometimes I find it handy to get online and find a few cheater tips/insight pages, just to help over the tricky parts.

Viola, you may not have suggested Faulkner but you did challenge me to read more American writers. And I'm thankful. I have tasted Hemingway and enjoyed immensely Old Man and the Sea. I just don't get what's going on in this first chapter of the Sound and the Fury.

And thanks Thia for the advise of gettting "Cheater" notes from online. I will do that. I think that will push me forward past page 4!

Thank you for the sweet visit and sharing your thoughts. I know just how you feel. The Lord has really had to bring me to a place where I have nothing to cling to but Him. It really is a process - this learning to trust.
I enjoyed your entry. What fun to reconnect with old friends. I hope you have a wonderful visit.
