Divisive Politics

I'm just gonna lay it out there because it was my initial reaction: people are idiots.

Okay, now tone it down a bit: some people are idiots but they're the ones with the megaphones!

Now full disclosure: I like Sarah Palin. I admire her. I've read what she's done for Alaska. I'm impressed (and a bit jealous living here in Democrat mega country Illinois!). She has ideas which mirror mine. She appears to be ethical, and honest, forthright.

The media does not share my admiration and it seems also "some people".

Sarah was in New York to celebrate Seward's purchasing of Alaska. CNN.com had a short video about her trip. I watched the video and then read the comments. Oh...My. There is such INTENSE hatred for this woman. But what was disturbing, ridiculously disheartening were the right-out attacks on her person, not her politics. Here are a few (and in all honesty they reflect the majority of what I read):

Sarah Palin is a science experiment that went terribly wrong!

WHY is this woman still in the news?

How in the world she was EVER elected to public office is a mystery. Shouldn't an IQ test be required before someone runs? There are a lot of intelligent people holding public office. Unfortunately, Alaska's governor isn't one of them.

I bet the Ny people were not happy to have this redneck hillbilly visit. Them. There's a big difference between the 'non-social' alaskan people and the people in NY who are use to a big social crowd. I think Sarah and the Republibrats are done as the people of america are tired of these morons who really don't care about the people of america and only care about themselves and there stubborn egos. Sorry sarah, you're just wasting your time. The people who are going to vote for you ain't going to be enough because the current man in the white house is getting the job done and WILL get reelected. You are the weakest link. Doodbye

Who cares? She's still an idiot!!!

This woman is stinky. Right-wing garbage

If Palin is in the running for a presidential run, it shows the sorry state of this country. The woman is a boob

i can't stomach anything about this woman. it is painful listening to her trying to put a sentance together. why she has a following is beyond me. what a laughing stock she would make if she tries to run for any office.

And there were a handful like this:

I love this woman and her intelligent toughness–the most smeared and feared woman in the USA by the liberals and she is still walking tall! The democrats smeared her even worse than they smeared Hillary Clinton and she stood up to it! No weakness and bowing to terrorists (liberal media) here! Come on down Iran and North Korea! Meet a strong US Representative of the people of America. You can't be any meaner than the liberal USA media!

But this was the worst. appalling and unnecessary comment from Bill Nancy in KY:

June 8th, 2009 12:21 pm ET

The Bible thumpers might love her, but those of us that believe in civil liberties are terrified, of the likes of her! I personally feel that someone who bears mongoloid children, doesn't have the genetic make-up to be President! Please go back to Alaska and preach your hate there. The lower 48 don't need to hear your rants!

There was no substance in these criticisms. There were no specific attacks against her policies/politics. And many comments danced around Tina Fey's imitation from SNL, or other lies spewed out from the internet.

Is there any hope for our country when our citizens are so divided and divisive? Once again I must remind myself my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus Christ, His righteousness.

What horrible things to say! I must admit though, I am laughing about the one person writing about the New York society people...hahahah! Some people get this idea that ALL of New York is New York City and miss the fact that it isn't. There are many down to earth farming families and blue color workers. People are idiots.

Barb,
That last bad quote about the children with Downs-syndrome. That is the horror of it all. I hope that one made at least a few of the others ashamed of themselves.
