Do You Ever?

"Please call me if you need anything."

Do you ever say this?

Do you ever get a call?

Do people/friends ever say this to you?

Do you ever call them if you need anything?

Just wondering

It's one of those platitudes - I say it sometimes but probably don't mean it. I have rarely taken anyone up on their offer - because I have assumed they didn't really mean it.

Same vein - "How are you doing?" People rarely really want to know.

Yeah, a platitutde. I say it and I really, really mean it. And hope the folks receiving would take me up on my offer but I never would venture to call on someone who offered the same. It has alot to do with my pride and stubbornness - believing I can and should be able to do it on my own. But I also have pride believing others WANT MY help. I'm a mess!

A small adjustment to the expression makes it much easier to accept, I think... asking for a response while you are still face to face:

"Is there anything you need? What can I do to help?"
