WFMW - Geography Lessons

We've always had a world map/globe in our kitchen next to the dinner table. When the kids were younger we would play the game "I'm think of a country" and we would have 5 questions to ask to guess the country. A few years ago nail polish remover was spilled on the table. I thought of stripping it, painting it and then another idea came to me - decoupage the map on the table! I cut the map up and glued it on the table with modge podge. It was still a little bare so around the edge I added paper money from countries around the world. I collected stamps when I was younger, so I added those too. And as a finishing touch I scoured through our own photos and some National Geographic magazines and added pictures. After 4-5 coast of polyeurythane the table is good to go and we still enjoy playing I'm think of a country.

Your link didn't work from WFMW at Shannon's, but I saw your blog name and tracked it down. You might want to try re-posting it.

Anyway, I just want to say:

Brilliant!

I *love* this idea! It's a true commitment to lifelong learning. What a fun table to sit at and consider the world. There you are, gathered at the table, your own little corner of the world, simultaneously considering the broader world.

Love it! Wish I were so bold!

Barbie has also decorated plain lamp shades with outlines of maps/world and hotglued foreign curancy on them. A very creative lady!!!

Thanks Ann, I fixed the link.
One of the reasons we homeschool is to instill in the kids a lifelong love for learning.
And there is no boldness on my part, maybe craziness.

And Oma,
Well, what can I say, thanks - for more than just those words

That is so cool!

I've always regretted not having a geography class (Can you believe I was an honors student since grammar school and I hold several degrees and I have never had geography?)

Your kids are so lucky!
