The Simple Woman's Daybook and Unfinished Projects or Imperfectly Beautiful

Outside my window...
....it's a cloudy day and hopefully much cooler than this past week.
I am thinking....
Aidan, Oma and Opa are visiting the island of Cyprus, touring the Mediterranean and preparing to move up to the camp they will be hosting for the next six weeks. We've skyped quite a bit since they left and it's been a joy to hear the adventures Aidan has met. I miss him terribly but am so thrilled for him.
I am thankful for...
...the cool weather expected this week. I melt under hot and humid conditions and in Southern IL that's what we get most of the time.
From the kitchen...
...is Emma pacing. She wears her ipod and paces around the house. She's waiting for time to pass so she can head out for her swim team practice - which I'm thankful for because it's given her confidence and a good physical work-out. I'm also thankful that her swim coach wasn't hurt when speeding home, to get back before curfew started, her Yukon flipped and rolled at a curve.
I am creating...
...a simple version of paella for dinner tonight. It's a new recipe that was in last months All You magazine. Ian's been asking for some exotic dinners and I thought this would fit the bill. It called for chorizo which Walmart doesn't carry but when I was at Aldi last week I found it so tonight on the menu - Quick Shrimp and Chorizo Paella!
I am going..
...to the Senior Center today for lunch to visit with Alberta who was recently widowed. I'm not very good with elderly folks-never have been and are church is predominantly elderly. But Alberta and I have talked a bit since her husband's death and I've enjoyed our conversations. There's so much history inside her that I'd love to hear. A part of me is still very uncomfortable with this upcoming date but like I tell my kids and my Sunday School class - life is about taking risks and doing something new, stretching ourselves and finding out something we've never known, seen, or felt before.
I am wearing...
...the brown Nautica nightgown Dave got me for Christmas. Actually he got me a completely different set of pajamas which were a size small - bless his heart, he thinks I'm the same size I was when we married. That and the size 7 slippers (I'm a 9) I exchanged and chose this brown (which is my new favorite color) Nautica microfiber long tank nightgown.
I am reading...
Ezekiel and The Green Mile by Stephen King
I am hoping...
To be able to run 2 miles on the high school track sometime this week, without stopping to walk.
I am hearing...
the new kitten pounce around the living room.
Around the house...
We have a new kitten which Dave found under his office window and he so humanitarianly rescued, thinking we would only give it shelter from the rain, but now is a loved, loyal and devoted member of our family.
One of my favorite things...
My husband's soft-spot for all-things cuddly, playful and warm.
A few plans for the rest of the week - finish those unfinished projects - some which are three years old!...
To touch up paint spots on various walls which have chipped away in the back door entry way, a bathroom, kitchen and front door. I'd also like to prime Ian's closet door. About 3 years ago I painted his room and then in my mad creativeness I painted on his closet doors a monogram he designed for himself. I never really finished it and he doesn't like it now. So it's been 3 years and I really should deal with it!
Here is a picture-thought I am sharing with you...
...the closet in Ian's room which needs to be primed over. And I included the clothes (clean and dirty) scattered on the floor intentionally.
