I will cut taxes
I will eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses...
I will stop giving tax breaks to corporations....
I will tap our natural gas reserves...
I'll help our auto industry re-tool...
I will make it easier for Americans to afford cars...
I'll invest 150 billion dollars in renewable energy...
I'll invest in early childhood education...
I'll recruit a new army of teachers...
I'll pay for every dime by closing corporate loop holes...
Pretty extraordinary promises, aren't they? And he's going to do it all!? I get a little weary/wary of someone who makes so many promises and then says, "And I'm not raising taxes." Booohhaaaa! Really? But if I made over $250,000 you would.
What I found extraordinary in this speech is there was little "we will" as in the democratic party will. I thought the potus was the head of his party and therefore spoke for them. But I guess this might be part of the change everyone is talking about. It's about a person now, not a party, an I, not a we.
I will be listening next week and honestly listening with unbiased ears to critique and/or applaud. Whichever fits best.

I really try to avoid politics as well, but it is so hard when we are inundated with it. It's annoying that these candidates make all these promises about things that, in all honesty, is not really their duty when it comes to being in the executive branch of the federal government. When I learned about the government in school, I heard there were 3 branches, with checks and balances. I heard that congress makes the laws. I also heard that public school was under the states' governance, not the federal. I guess I am just wrong?! Ugh, there is so much attention giving to the presidents, no wonder they seem to think they are the only ones who will be running the country. To be honest, I'm not sure by your post whether you liked this wording of things by Obama or not. It is interesting, though, for sure.

Thanks Lynn - government is not our savior. That's not what I heard at the DNC. If you're curious about my support read today's post. I'm pumped for McCain/Palin. They are real change.
